I talk about food a lot. And other stuff.

But mostly food.

Truffle Update

UPDATE:  The truffles were amazing!  Super easy, though they take some unattended time.  I made them 1/2 tsp balls instead of 1 tsp balls in hopes that my children could/would pop them in their mouths instead of biting them and having them melt all over their two- and four-year old hands.  This worked about as well as one would expect, with not quite as much chocolate clean up as if I'd made them bigger.

Twelve of them made it to our table.  The rest were packaged up and brought to our neighbors.  They are moving away, and we are very sad to see them go.

On March 29th, a new family will move in next door with children aged 10, 6 and 4.  Here's hoping they like food - I really like to share!

  1. Like a good neighbor Virginia is there.. with Noms Noms.

I love the anti-mess consideration. It's one that I should try to adhere to myself. Not to mention the mess David makes.

  2. Have you ever tried to do any fills in truffles? Before we wet down the soap route, my husband actually wanted to make chocolates shaped like organs with different fills.

He didn't have much luck trying to make caramel his first could tries.

  3. These were basically peanut butter balls with pretzels mixed in. Rolled, frozen, then rolled in melted chocolate and chilled again. I've also made just plain chocolate ganashe ones, then rolled in cocoa powder (yum). Never tried any fillings - would you mold them first and then inject them, or would they be too solid? Maybe fill the mold half-way, settle in some filling, then cover it with more chocolate in the mold before setting? Interesting. I've never done it, but if you try - let me know how it goes! Oozing raspberry filled heart organ chocolates for Valentine's Day?

  4. It looked from a fancy chocolatiers book we got that you make the fillings in hard ball form, then drop them into your molds filled with chocolate.

My husband has a tendency to get sidetracked easily so it's probably on the back shelf til about Halloween.
